Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
Michael and Jim co-own two media companies: Village Voice Media and Phoenix New Times. Through this platform, they have been fighting and defending for individual civil rights and freedoms for over 38 years. On October 18, 2007, they were incarcerated for revealing secret jury proceedings in one of their publications. The two journalists later appealed and won a settlement of $3.75 million.
The pair dedicated the money to fighting for human, civil, and migrants rights. They decided to support groups and organizations that advocate for these rights in Arizona. The fund that was named as the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund will also support the fight for citizen involvement and freedom of speech in Arizona and the Mexican border.
Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are widely celebrated for the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) honored the duo’s efforts and dedication in the year 2008. In that year’s annual Bill of Rights Dinner, Michael and Jim won the Civil Liberation of the Year Award.
